Ubuntu 'Love' Leather Choker | Sterling Silver

Ubuntu 'Love' Leather Choker | Sterling Silver

“I am what I am because of who we all are.”

Ubuntu (oo-boon-to) is a Nguni Bantu term meaning humanity and the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. When that connection is deeply felt it’s transformative. Even small actions have a big impact. When we respect each other, the environment, and ourselves, life blossoms. The world stamped on this bracelet is a reminder that we are all connected.

This piece was designed in collaboration with The Art of Courage (TAOC).  50 percent of the proceeds from this piece goes directly to the Tchukudu Kids Home in Goma, helping to provide food, safety, shelter and most importantly love, for over 140 orphaned children. We thank you, it means the world to us!

  • About this necklace

Our Ubuntu 'Love' leather choker features an image of the world hand-stamped and cast into sterling silver. The plate is organic in shape and imperfect. On the reverse side the word "love" hand-stamped into it.  This piece is strung on our English Saddle leather which is hand-dyed in deep, warm browns like a perfectly worn saddle.

This piece was designed in collaboration with The Art of Courage (TAOC). The Art of Courage is a platform for storytelling through art to create awareness, educate, advocate, and raise funds to change lives. TAOC funds various projects to empower local leaders to help the most vulnerable women and children.

  • About our leather

Our leather is a curated collection of Canadiana tones. Each colour is chosen for its rich, deep tone and represents our memories and love of the Canadian landscape. The artisans who create the shades have over 100 years’ combined experience in blending and creating dyes.

The sun is used to naturally warm and dry the colours in a slow process that allows the hide to expand, take in the colour, and set in a complete cure. It’s the most environmentally friendly way to make your leather cord beautiful with the least impact on the environment.

All of the dyes used in our leathers are certified 100% Lead-Free and meet all requirements of the German Goods Ordinance, REACH (European Union), RoSH (U.K.), and CPSIA (U.S.) which require consumer goods to be free of Lead, AZO’s and carcinogenic chemicals.

  • A note about wear + care

As with all special jewelry, this piece requires love and care. Please be sure to remove your piece before bathing, swimming or doing messy labour. With the right care, this piece will last you for many wonderful years.
